Sophomore quarterback Cade Klubnik

We will begin with the obvious. Regardless of the rest of the roster, it all starts with the quarterback. This year, Clemson Football is breaking in a new offensive system, so even though we saw Cade Klubnik at the end of 2022, we didn’t see him with Garrett Riley calling plays.

The question this spring isn’t just if Klubnik can take steps forward and improve over last season, but if he can also assimilate and excel in a new system. On the surface, Riley’s system should fit Klubnik well, but it is hard to know until we see it on the field.

Last spring, it was hard to make heads or tails of what DJ Uiagalelei or Klubnik did in the Spring Game because there were so many injuries around them at the skill positions. The Tigers still have injuries this year, but they aren’t quite as concentrated on the offensive side as they were last spring.

This season we should be able to get a better picture of where Klubnik stands as he moves into the summer months. An offense can’t master a new system with the minimal practices available in the spring, but we should get an idea if they have a decent grasp, or if they still have a lot of work to do. As we said, it all starts with the quarterback.
