The 2022-23 regular season is drawing to a close for Clemson Men’s Basketball. The Tigers have one more conference test this Saturday when they host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Clemson is tied with the Duke Blue Devils for fourth-place in the ACC standings at 13-6. The Tigers won their lone meeting with Duke in January, so they own the tiebreaker. If they were to finish tied for fourth place, Clemson would get the 4-seed in the ACC tournament and get the double-bye into the quarterfinals.
Duke plays North Carolina Saturday night. Regardless of the outcomes of the games Saturday night, the odds are high that Clemson will face the Blue Devils again in the conference tournament.
Senior forward Hunter Tyson leads the Tigers in scoring (15.6 per game) and rebounds (9.4 per game). Junior guard Chase Hunter leads the team in assists with 4.5 per game and is also contributing 14.3 points per game.
Notre Dame has struggled this season, but they are coming off a victory over Pitt this past Wednesday in Mike Brey’s final home game as the head coach of the Irish. Brey is stepping down after 23 seasons in South Bend.
Senior forward Nate Laszewski leads Notre Dame in points (14.1 per game) and rebounds (7.2 per game). Senior guard Trey Wertz leads the Irish in assists with 3.2 per game.
Clemson Men’s Basketball is a 8.5 point favorite against Notre Dame with an over/under of 144.5 points
Clemson is favored over the Irish by 8.5 points, with a total of 144.5, implying a 76.5-68 win by the Tigers.
John Chancey (19-11, 11-19 ATS):
Clemson plays well at home. Notre Dame has yet to win an ACC game on the road. This just isn’t the Irish’s year. They are coming off an emotional home victory in Brey’s final home game, and they are primed for a letdown. It’s as simple as that.
Marty Coleman (20-10, 13-17 ATS):
Clemson finishes out the regular season at home as a big favorite, needing a win over a team ranked No. 179 in the NET Rankings. What could go wrong?
KenPom.com gives the Tigers an 84% chance of winning, ESPN pushes it to 88%. It’s Littlejohn and Senior Night, so yeah Clemson wins, but that spread is one I wouldn’t bet a penny on because the Tigers may win by 30 or they may win by 3. Either wouldn’t surprise me.
