Cade Klubnik

This is a no-brainer. Sophomore Klubnik has taken the reigns of the Clemson offense. His freshman campaign was uneven.

He demonstrated what he is capable of accomplishing in his first drive against Georgia Tech, then further when he led the Tigers to victory in the ACC championship game against North Carolina.

His field time against Furman, his interception against Notre Dame, and his first start against Tennessee in the Orange Bowl demonstrate why the coaching staff was hesitant to put him in the starting lineup, despite the limitations of his predecessor, DJ Uiagalelei.

There was already a good amount of optimism that with a full offseason, between spring practice, summer workouts and fall camp, Klubnik would be in a far better position to play well consistently in 2023, even with Brandon Streeter as offensive coordinator.

Now, with Riley taking charge and installing a more innovative offense, Klubnik stands to benefit significantly.

There will be a learning curve. Every new offense takes time to install, but this offense is well-suited to Klubnik’s talents.

Additionally, Riley has demonstrated his ability to develop quarterbacks. Max Duggan wasn’t a new addition to the TCU program, nor was he a hidden gem buried on the depth chart. He started for the Horned Frogs in 2020 and 2021.  Like the whole of the TCU offense, he was average.

Under Riley’s tutelage in 2022, Duggan went from former starter to Heisman Trophy finalist.

Is it Riley’s ability to teach? Is it the system? Is it his play calling and game planning? It is probably a combination, but it worked for Duggan, and it seems likely it can work for Klubnik.
