Even though it’s off-season for Clemson football, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing going on. We’ll get to football in a minute, but we’re leading off today’s news with Clemson Men’s Basketball, as the 11-3 Tigers are in Blacksburg to face the Virginia Tech Hokies.
We’ll have more on the game later this morning as John Chancey and I will do our usual and pick against the spread.
Before I do that I need to figure out how Alex Hemenway’s foot is doing, because whether it’s this game or the next, the Tigers are going to need him if they want to get to the NCAA Tournament.
You don’t find guys shooting 50% from three-point range everywhere these days.
It’s a big stretch for the Tigers who are 3-0 in the ACC and head to Pittsburgh after concluding business in Virginia.
Back to football
Clemson football was well represented in the Under Armour All-American game Tuesday evening.
The big name, of course, is Peter Woods and he had quite the game, at one point ragdolling a running back.
Later on, Woods gave his answer when asked “Why the Tigers?”
Just because Clemson football doesn’t advertise they are looking at players in the portal, doesn’t mean they aren’t looking for players in the portal.
Are they going to be all Southern California about it? No, and it doesn’t make any difference if Dabo is the coach or not. That’s just not something Clemson is going to do.
As I pointed out yesterday, if you’re pinning your hopes on the portal, there’s a high chance you will be disappointed.
If you read close enough you know Clemson has used the portal and is looking to fill a position or two this off-season. Are they going to funnel the dude NIL money? No.
But that’s different than not using the portal.
Clemson’s outgoing kicker B.T. Potter had a rough final game in the Orange Bowl against Tennessee, but I’d take B.T. in a minute if there were a rematch.
Incoming Clemson football specialist wins All-American nod
Incoming Class of 2024 kicker Nolan Hauser continues to rack up accolades.
No one ever cares about kickers until you need one, or until they have a day like B.T. had against Tennessee.
Then people care.
