Clemson Football has closed the book on the 2022 season, but they aren’t truly off in the offseason. Despite what some former Florida coaches might think, recruiting is a year-round endeavor.

Clemson has brought in several defensive line prospects in the 2023 class, which means they only have a few spots for that position in the Class of 2024. They want quality for those spots since quantity isn’t an option.

To that end, they have focused on a limited number of line recruits, and #1 on their list is Hevin Brown-Shuler, a prospect from Atlanta, Georgia. He is a 4-star recruit in the 247Sports Composite, ranked 72nd overall in the nation. He is ranked 51st in the nation in the On3 Consensus.

Brown-Shuler announced a Top 13 this past weekend, and the Tigers made the cut.

This is just Brown-Shuler’s first list of potential schools, and with over a dozen still in contention, you know he isn’t all that close to a final decision. He will probably narrow the list to a Top 5 at some point, which will likely be the programs where he takes official visits.

Brown-Shuler isn’t taking his recruitment lightly. He has already made 33 visits to college programs, and he just completed his junior season in high school ball. He visited Clemson this past fall for the NC State game.

Clemson Football will look to advance their recruitment of Brown-Shuler at their Elite Junior Day in January

Nonetheless, the inclusion of the Tigers is a sign they are on the right track. Brown-Shuler has announced that he will attend Clemson’s Elite Junior Day on January 28th. He is one of the few players who received a Tiger scholarship offer before June 1st before their senior season, which means the staff felt they had built their relationship with Brown-Shuler and his family to an advanced point.

While Clemson has several talented defensive linemen in the program or joining this spring/summer, continuing to replenish the cupboard is important. Football starts in the trenches, and elite defensive line play has been crucial to the Tigers’ fortunes over the past decade.

It is clear that Clemson values Brown-Shuler, also known as ‘Hevy Duty’, as a key part of their 2024 Class, and it looks like they are on their way to making a good impression. One of the keys to Tiger recruiting: get them on campus. Clemson will have another opportunity to host Brown-Shuler later this month.

At least one analyst thinks Clemson is the favorite.
