If you like numbers, those that were the result of the Clemson football loss to Tennessee Friday night are maddening.

101 plays. 468 yards. 34 first downs. 1 loss.

Generally, yards equal points, but Clemson was a study in futility once in Volunteer territory in the Orange Bowl.

Gameonpaper.com does a great job at providing both routine and more advanced stats and their review of Clemson-Tennessee is fascinating, at least to me.

In short, Clemson did a lot right on offense, but not at the right time and it wasn’t very explosive when they did.

The site uses a different definition of explosive than is typical, so that takes some getting used to, but the general principles are there.

The Tigers averaged 8.59 plays per drive, almost 46 yards per drive, gained 63% of yards available, and lost by three touchdowns.

I’m sure there have been stranger game summaries on the site, but this one is a doozy, and not in a good way.

NFL decisions loom for multiple Clemson football players

While we know some of the players returning for the 2023 season, we’re still in the dark on others and it’ll be fascinating to learn who’s staying and who’s going.

I’m not the guy who is going to lambast someone for their decision one way or the other as I see it as a personal decision that involves factors the public has no knowledge of.

I may comment, but don’t look for me to say a player made the “right” or “wrong” decision.

Clemson basketball 3-0 in ACC, with two tough road games ahead

It’s a big week for Brad Brownell’s squad as the 11-4 Tigers have road games at two of the ACC’s better teams.  First the Tigers travel to Virginia Tech on Wednesday and then to Pittsburgh on Saturday.

The Hokies are only 1-2 in the conference and have lost back to back conference road games themselves, while the Panthers are tied with Clemson at 3-0 in the league.

Both games are scheduled for telecast on ESPNU, with the Virginia Tech game set to tip at 9 p.m. and Pittsburgh at 4 p.m.
