Clemson women’s basketball moved to 7-3 on the season with a blowout 79-54 win over Charlotte Thursday in Littlejohn Coliseum.

The 49ers dropped to 4-6, while Clemson extended its winning streak to four games.

Amari Robinson paced the Tigers on offense pouring in 22 points, while freshman sensation Ruby Whitehorn finished with 21.

Robinson’s effort pushed her past 1,000 points in her career.

A quick start by Charlotte was negated by a 9-2 run from the Tigers over the last 1:53 in the first quarter that included a three-pointer by Hannah Hank with six seconds left in the first quarter and Clemson led 15-13 after one period.

Led by Robinson and Whitehorn, the Tigers began to widen the distance in the second quarter, outscoring Charlotte 19-11.

After a close third quarter, the Tigers dominated the fourth stanza, with Whitehorn racking up 6 points in the first 3:38 of the fourth period and then a jumper by Kionna Gaines that extended the Tigers lead to 20 at 64-44.

Other than Robinson and Whitehorn the only other Clemson player in double figures was Daish Bradford with 11 points.

Hank chipped in 8, Brie Perpignan 6, Weronika Hipp 5, Gaines, 4 and Madi Ott 2, as 8 of the 9 Tigers that played hit the scoring column.

Robinson and Makayla Elmore led the Tigers with 7 rebounds each.

For the game Clemson shot 46.4% from the field (32 of 69), 34.8% from three point range (8 of 23) and 50% (7-14) from the line.

Clemson women’s basketball dominated in the paint and took advantage of 23 Charlotte turnovers

Clemson dominated in the paint, outscoring the 49ers 32-18 from that range, while Charlotte committed 23 turnovers to the Tigers 10, allowing Clemson to score 28 points off their miscues.

Clemson returns to action on Saturday afternoon taking on Western Carolina at 2 p.m. in Littlejohn Coliseum, then has a week off before they travel to Raleigh, North Carolina on Sunday December 18th to take on North Carolina State in a game slated to be shown on the ACC Network.

Following that, the Tigers round out the calendar year hosting Radford (December 20) and Virginia Tech (December 29).
