Each week this season the RubbingtheRock.com staff will pick the score of the Clemson football game against the spread and we’ll also pick a wild card game in a “friendly” competition.

We had a 6-2 week, including 3-1 against the spread in the Clemson-Louisville game.

The points race looks like this:

Chancey 203.19
Houston 118.19

Marty (-181.81)

Beef (-372.72)

Only two more weeks to go.

We’re using a spread of Clemson -19.

Without further ado, here are the picks for week 12.

John Chancey (12-8, 11-8 ATS)

Miami beat Georgia Tech last weekend with a new quarterback who adds a running element, opening things up for the offense. That unpredictable wrinkle, which will prolong some drives and keep the Tiger offense off the field, will keep the margin closer to 25 than to 50.

Chancey’s wild card pick is Connecticut +10.5.

Houston Burnett (11-8-1, 10-8-1)

Miami, despite scoring 35 last week, were gifted the majority of points on turnovers. The Canes had 14 points going into the 4th quarter before pulling away. Similar to Louisville, minimize turnovers (at least some of them), control the line of scrimmage. Miami has some dudes on each side of the ball, but right now this team is nowhere near a finished product.

Houston’s wild card pick is Duke +7.5

Marty Coleman (10-10, 9-10 ATS)

Last week I doubted Clemson could score 30 and they did just that.  Call me a skeptic, but this week, I’m doubting this team can cover a 19 point spread and I hope the Tigers prove me wrong again.  For whatever reason, it seems like this Clemson team lacks the killer instinct of some previous versions and 19 points seems like a stretch.

Marty’s wild card pick is Tennessee -21.5.

Casey “The Beef” Cregan (9-11, 8-11 ATS)

I grew up a Miami fan, a favorite cousin of mine went there, National Championships in my youth, yada yada.  Family is a very big thing to me.  Especially with Thanksgiving approaching…Clemson by a HUNDRED…or 24! Stomp the U!

Casey’s wild card pick is Boston College +21.

Next. Purple tops, orange britches forever. dark
