The 8-1 Clemson football team will look to bounce back from a thorough and demoralizing loss to Notre Dame last Saturday when they take on the resurgent Louisville Cardinals in Death Valley on Saturday afternoon on ESPN.

The Cardinals are on a 4-game winning streak, while the Tigers were dominated, 35-14, by the Irish in Indiana.

As opposed to last week there hasn’t been much movement in this spread, just down a half point to Clemon -7 from the opening of -7.5 and the total also went down a half point from 52.5 to the current 52 points.

Despite the loss last week Clemson sewed up the ACC Atlantic before they ever hit the turf at Notre Dame Stadium and still have a lot to play for this season, even if they no longer control their own destiny as far as the College Football Playoff goes.

Louisville is no chump and Malik Cunningham is a quarterback that can make a defense pay quickly if assignment football is not played.

Clemson comes in with a nation’s best 38-game home winning streak and ironically the last loss for the Tigers in Death Valley will have occurred 6 years to the day of this game.

Most of the predictions I’ve seen, whether by humans or models, show Clemson scoring 30 or more and while I agree that COULD happen, I can’t predict it happening with any confidence or in good conscience.

Clemson football has struggled to score over the last two games

Simply put the offense has not produced over the last two games and D.J. Uiagalelei looks lost again.

I do think the defense will play better if for no other reason than Louisville is not Notre Dame, either in size or talent and I think it’s a much better matchup for the Tigers defense.

Best Bet: Under 52

As mentioned earlier in the week I think we see a heavy dose of Will Shipley and Phil Mafah, with some Uiagalelei runs mixed in and limited possessions means I’m going with the under.

The one caveat for me is I’m counting on Louisville to not score a non-offensive touchdown, which both Syracuse and Notre Dame (2) did, but this is a risk I’m willing to take when going with the under.
