Clemson Men’s Soccer ended Friday night’s match with Pittsburgh in a 1-1 draw and now are 8-2-1 on the season.

Playing on the road the Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead with just eighteen seconds remaining in the first half when Alvaro Gomez’s corner kick was headed past the goalkeeper by Adam Lundegard.

The lead didn’t last long as Pittsburgh scored about six minutes after the break on what was Clemson goalkeeper Joseph Adema’s first goal allowed in 501 minutes in the net this season.

The two ACC teams traded opportunities for the rest of the match without either scoring and with the new rules this season the match ended in a draw, but even that was controversial.

The Panthers appeared to have a shot at a kick, but the referee didn’t stop the clock until there were only a few seconds left and then called the match a draw with time still left on the clock in a move that caused confusion among players, coaches and announcers.

Pittsburgh totaled 13 shots on goal while the Tigers had 12 and the Tigers were called for 14 penalties to the Panthers 11.

Each goalkeeper was credited with four saves.

Four of Clemson’s final five matches are in the friendly confines of Riggs field. Next up for the Tigers are home matches with UNC Greensboro and Virginia on October 11 and 15, respectively, followed by a road trip to Louisville on October 21.

The Tigers then complete the regular season with home matches against UMass on October 24th and North Carolina State on October 28.

As Clemson Men’s Soccer schedule has gotten tougher the Tigers are finding wins tough to come by

After beginning the season 6-0, the defending National Champion Tigers have struggled a bit as the competition ramped up, going 2-2-1 in their last five matches.

The two losses were to number 4 Wake Forest and number 7 Syracuse and the draw with number 25 Pittsburgh.

The Tigers’ road doesn’t get much easier as future opponent Louisville is currently ranked 11th, while Virginia is ranked number 21.
