Each week this season the RubbingtheRock.com staff will pick the score of the Clemson football game against the spread and we’ll also pick a wild card game in a “friendly” competition.

The staff managed a 5-3  record against the spread last week, including 3-1 on the Clemson – North Carolina State game, where the Tigers dominated the second half and covered the spread against the Wolfpack.

The points race looks like this:

Houston 63.64
Chancey (-129.23)

Beef (-327.27)

Marty (-327.27)

Beef and I are struggling on multiple platforms in our picks.

Without further ado, here are the picks for week 6.

Houston Burnett (6-4, 5-4 ATS)

Sandwich games always worry me. Chestnut Hill always seems to be a dogfight. BC, per usual, is a sound disciplined defense. But their offense is absolutely putrid, only averaging 76 yards rushing a game. Being 1 dimensional is not a recipe to beat Clemson.

826. Prediction. 35. 879. 13

Houston’s wild card pick is Kansas +7 at TCU.

John Chancey (5-5, 4-5 ATS)

My first instinct was to assume a little bit of a letdown for Clemson against BC in the Red Bandana game. Then again, the Eagles are on hangover alert after an unexpected win, they have a putrid offensive line and the defense has taken a step back too. I expect Clemson to get to the 30’s quickly. Where they go from there depends on if/when they try to get the backups into the game.

17. 826. Prediction. 45. 879

Chancey’s wild care pick is Arkansas +8 at Mississippi State.

Casey Cregan (4-6, 3-6 ATS)

Hey, I don’t mean to scare any of our loyal readers, but BC beat Louisville last weekend!  BC IS BACK!  Zay Flowers is a load, and Phil Jurkovec gave Clemson fits the last time he was healthy enough to play the Tigers.  Thank goodness Ron Cherry retired because he seemed to meet me in Chestnut Hill every time I would go.  That would spell doom for the Tigers in that little stadium twice.  I don’t think the Tigers will struggle much this weekend.

35. 879. 10. 826. Prediction

Casey’s wild card pick is North Carolina +3.5 at Miami.

Marty Coleman (4-6, 3-6 ATS)

I see this game as a letdown spot for Clemson after emotional (Wake Forest) and physical (N.C. State) games for the Tigers, with a look ahead to Florida State next week.  It’s homecoming and the Red Bandana Game for Boston College and they’ll have a national TV audience.  They have a QB and Zay Flowers, so expect some points, but CU is the better team all over the field with one exception.  I’m terrible at picking Clemson games, so you’ve been warned.

10. 826. Prediction. 31. 879

Marty’s wild card pick is BYU Money Line +130 at Notre Dame.
