Clemson Football: Early look at the odds for Week 6 matchup with Boston College

After two emotional weeks of play Clemson football hits the road to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts to take on the Boston College Eagles, Saturday night on ABC.

Current Spread/Total: Clemson -20.5 Over/Under 48.5

Clemson covered the spread and, with the help of a roughing the passer penalty, hit the over in last week’s win over North Carolina State moving the Tigers to 2-3 against the spread this year and 3-2 on the over, with three consecutive overs for Clemson on the season.

Clemson’s offense moved the ball well against a good Wolfpack defense, scoring right before and right after the half and pulling away.

The Tiger defense finally held up to its preseason billing, holding N.C. State to 279 yards despite being without Bryan Bresee and with Andrew Mukuba being ejected for targeting right before the half.

Boston College comes in a 1-4 against the number and 3-2 to the over on totals.

The only cover for the Eagles came last Saturday in an outright win over Louisville as a 13.5-point underdog.

Like Clemson, Boston College has also hit the over in the last three consecutive games.

The numbers currently imply a score of 34.5-14 in Clemson’s favor, but many are concerned about the hook on the end of that 20.5 spread.

This could be a tricky game for the Tigers, coming after consecutive top 25 opponents and before a trip to Tallahassee, while being on the road, at night in an emotional game for Boston College.

For all those reasons, the early thought is to either take Boston College and the points or find a side on the total.

That, too is tough, because Boston College’s offensive line is a weak point and we just saw Clemson’s defensive line demolish North Carolina State in the second half.

That said, as long as BC can give Phil Jurkovec time to throw look for Zay Flowers to be a factor against an injury-plagued Clemson secondary.
