Clemson Football: Tigers remain 5th in AP Poll

Despite beating their second straight top 25 opponent, the latest one in the top 10, Clemson football remained 5th in the latest AP Poll released Sunday.

The Tigers manhandled 10th ranked North Carolina State in Death Valley before a boisterous crowd Saturday night.

Alabama overtook Georgia for the top spot as the Dogs struggled on the road at Missouri before pulling out a 26-22 win.

Meanwhile the Tide lost quarterback Bryce Young, but handled Arkansas after a bit of a third quarter scare.

Ohio State blasted Rutgers and Michigan remained 4th despite its suspect schedule to date.

No. 6-10 are USC, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Penn State.

The second ten are Utah, Oregon, Kentucky, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, BYU, TCU, UCLA, Kansas and Kansas State.

The Wolfpack dropped to 14 from 10 after their loss to Clemson, while the Demon Deacons moved up after defeating Florida State in Tallahassee.

The final five are Washington, Syracuse, Mississippi State, Cincinnati and LSU.

The ACC has four teams ranked with Pittsburgh and Florida State dropping out and Syracuse joining the top 25.

Pittsburgh was upset by lowly Georgia Tech and FSU lost to Wake Forest at home.

One could objectively argue that Clemson, with two consecutive wins over ranked teams, one on the road and one over a top 10 team, have a better resume than Michigan and deserve to be ranked at least fourth.

The Wolverines had three dominant wins over bad teams, including 0-4 Colorado State and 1-4 Hawaii and 2-4 Connecticut to open the season before beating Maryland by a touchdown and Iowa by 13.

Clemson, meanwhile has been criticized for lackluster first halves against Georgia Tech and Louisiana Tech and a lazy national narrative around the offense in general, and quarterback D.J.  Uiagalelei in particular.

The Tigers travel north to the Boston area for another nationally televised game Saturday night, before trekking south to Tallahassee on October 15 for a date with Florida State.
