Clemson football product Mike Williams had a huge night on Thursday Night football as the San Diego Chargers ultimately fell to the Kansas City Chiefs by a score of 27-24.

Williams finished the night with 8 receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown on 10 targets from quarterback Justin Herbert.

Included in those numbers was a spectacular one handed touchdown grab to put the Chargers up 17-7.

Here’s another look at it, in case you missed it.

Even before that spectacular catch there was this one in which Williams was interfered with and still came down with the catch.

This spring Williams signed a $60 million three year contract , with $40 million guaranteed, including a $21 million signing bonus.

Williams was the seventh pick of the 2017 NFL draft out of Clemson after being a crucial part of the Tigers 2016 National Championship team, including making a huge play on Clemson’s game-winning drive.

Williams suffered a neck injury early in the 2015 season when he crashed into the goal post on a touchdown reception, missing the rest of the season, including Clemson’s eventual National Championship loss to Alabama.

Many Clemson fans and players believe Williams could have made the difference in the Tigers 45-40 loss.

Williams played in 38 games at Clemson, totaling 177 receptions for 2,727 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Before Clemson, Williams was a four star recruit from Lake Marion High School, where he had 60 receptions for 1,395 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior.

Williams battled a herniated disk injury early in his professional career and entered this season with 227 catches for 3,662 yards and 26 touchdowns for the Chargers in his career.

In 2021 he posted career highs in games (16, tied), receptions (76) and yards (1,146), also recording his longest reception of his NFL career at 72 yards.

The Chiefs rallied with 13 fourth quarter points for the win, including a 99 yard interception return by Jaylen Watson.

For the first two games of the season Williams has 10 receptions on 14 targets for 123 yards and one touchdown.
