Coming off a 41-10 win over Georgia Tech that saw the talking heads and pollsters unimpressed the Clemson football team plays their first home game of the season this weekend vs. in-state FBS program Furman.
The Paladins are 1-0 after a 52-0 thrashing of North Greenville on September 1, which means they are also well rested.
Like every year, there are plenty of questions after game one and hope for improvement in game 2, which kicks off at 3:30 p.m. EST on the ACC Network.
Like we did last week, here are 5 things to keep an eye on this week.
Cade Klubnik
Where else would I start other than the most important position on the team and one that has fans and media talking incessantly about what’s next?
Klubnik’s debut was almost spotless, but as he entered the game with 5:15 left in the contest, it was already over with the Tigers up 24 and the game no longer in doubt.
Still he was impressive – the laser over the middle to Drew Swinney, the touch on the touchdown pass to Will Taylor, the decisiveness and athletic ability to tuck it and run, were all things that jumped off the screen.
Sometimes numbers tell you things and sometimes your eyes tell you things. Sometimes the two marry up perfectly and you have what you saw on the Tigers final drive Monday.
Klubnik finished the night 4 of 6 for 49 yards with a touchdown and 4 yards rushing on one attempt, but he won a lot of hearts and minds in a mop up role.
Tiger fans everywhere are wondering if Klubnik gets more time this week and, if he does, how he handles it, in what should be a pretty easy Clemson win.
Everything went right for Klubnik Monday, but what happens if it doesn’t? What happens if a snap goes over his head, or receivers repeatedly drop passes that are on the money?
Klubnik’s continued development is a huge part of the ultimate story of the 2022 Clemson football team.
