If it weren’t for bad luck he’d have no luck at all applies to former Clemson football wide receiver Justyn Ross.

The free agent signee of the Kansas City Chiefs required another foot surgery, this one apparently to correct the one done in November that ended Ross’s 2021 season.

"As mentioned in the above tweet, Reid noted the injury did not occur as Ross participated in the first two weeks of organized team activities (OTAs).“It was a little bit off of the surgery he had before — it wasn’t functioning quite the way [he wanted],” said Reid. “It was bothering him. It wasn’t working quite the way he wanted it, so they went in and re-did it — and we’re hoping this works out well.”"

Ross created a buzz in Chiefs Organized Team Activities, but some observers are downplaying Ross’ potential at the NFL level.

Despite those comments, Patrick Mahomes apparently likes what he has seen so far.

Only 4 NFL teams medically cleared former Clemson football star Justyn Ross, but his potential was on display in the College Football Playoff during the 2018 season

Only four teams medically cleared Ross in the run up to the draft and now his foot injury has required another surgery with no timetable for a return as the NFL moves toward training camp time.

While catching the eye of Mahomes is a certainly a way to increase your opportunity to make an NFL team as a free agent, unfortunately being unable to perform in training camp puts a damper on those hopes.

Ross caught 158 passes for 2,379 yards and 20 touchdowns in 38 games at Clemson, including an electrifying freshman season in which he finished with 46 receptions for 1,000 yards, 9 touchdowns and a 21.7 yard per catch average, including dominating performances against Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff Semifinal (6-148- 2 TD) and Alabama (6-153-1 TD) in the National Championship as Clemson crushed the Crimson Tide 44-16.
