There are times when I’m writing about Clemson football when my cynicism comes shining through.  Yesterday was one of those days as I opined on the ACC sitting by while the college football world moved into the mid-2020s and beyond.

Once I hit send, there was a tinge of “maybe I was too hard on them, surely they’re working behind the scenes on something. Anything.” that crept into my mind.

Yet, I let my thoughts stand, as this is what this is really about – the thoughts of the fans (it is FanSided, after all).

Included in there was this bit of what I thought was snark:

"Meanwhile, the ACC is…likely figuring out who it’s next “alliance” is going to be with (could you feel my eye roll?) and how all this realignment of football powers impacts basketball and field hockey."

I was assured privately that big things were in the works.  That the ACC ain’t going down like this, to only be greeted a mere few hours later with this:

"One attempt involves Clemson. The ACC and Pac-12 are creating a “loose partnership,” according to a report from CBS Sports. The two conferences are hoping to strengthen their television rights position and make more money. The ACC proposed the idea, and the two leagues could play crossover games and possibly a “championship game” in Las Vegas, the report said."

The ACC twists in the wind as college athletics evolve around them

Let’s check the scorecard: SEC adds Texas and Oklahoma. Big 10 adds USC and UCLA.  ACC considers loose alliance (whatever that means) with PAC-12 leftovers.

Did I miss anything?

You have got to be kidding me.

Here’s where I would typically insert the old “SEC and Big 10 are playing chess, while the ACC is playing checkers” bit, except I’m not sure the ACC is up for checkers from all appearances.

Next. What's next for Clemson recruiting. dark
