Clemson Nation celebrated again today when offensive lineman Harris Sewell announced his commitment to the Tigers.

Sewell is a 4-star prospect in the 247 Composite. He will play his senior season this fall for the Permian Panthers in Odessa, Texas. He is ranked 72nd overall in the nation. He is the 2nd ranked interior offensive lineman nationally.

Sewell had been projected to the Tigers by both multiple observers and recruiting services. He is the 12th commitment for Clemson in the month of June, making it one of the most stellar months of football recruiting in school history.

Watching Sewell’s junior season highlights, I can see immediately that he is powerful and can drive defensive linemen backwards, as well as several examples of pancake blocks. He typically lines up on the interior at guard. He can also get down field to block for running backs, showing a high amount of athleticism.

Sewell announced Clemson, Texas A&M, Texas, Oklahoma & Alabama as his finalists in early April. He made an official visit to Clemson on June 3rd. He followed that with an official visit to Texas A&M, so it seemed he had focused on those two programs leading up to his decision. Sewell becomes the 15th commit in the Class of 2023. He is the 12th commitment in the month of June.

Sewell becomes second offensive lineman from the state of Texas to join the 2023 class

Sewell joins Ian Reed of Vandegrift High School as the second offensive lineman from the state of Texas to join Clemson’s 2023 class. Both players have a nasty streak that I am looking forward to seeing in Death Valley. I like the direction that recruiting is going under new position coach Thomas Austin, and I think we will see that new attitude on the field in 2022 as well as on the recruiting trail in the future.

We aren’t expecting July to be quite as busy as June for the Tigers, but there are multiple announcements forthcoming from players that Clemson has recruited. Offensive lineman Zechariah Owens will be announcing on July 4th and is projected to the Tigers by both Rivals and 247. Defensive lineman Peter Woods announces his commitment on July 9th. Woods is one of the most highly ranked prospects in 2023. Most projections favor his home state Alabama Crimson Tide as his likely choice, but Clemson fans are hoping Coach Swinney can pull off the upset.
