Boston College at Notre Dame

When: Saturday, November 19, 2022

Where: Notre Dame Stadium, Notre Dame, IN

Why: BC quarterback Phil Jurkovec started his career with the Fighting Irish. When he saw that Ian Book was going to keep him off the field, he elected to transfer to Chestnut Hill and play for new coach Jeff Hafley. Jurkovec played very well in 2020, and many people (myself included) expected big things for Boston College in 2021. That was all derailed when he was injured and missed a big chunk of the season. The Eagles limped to another .500 season.

Going into 2022, the expectations for BC are low, even though Jurkovec and dynamic wide receiver Zay Flowers both return. Perhaps the most important ingredient in their secret sauce? Running back Pat Garwo, who quietly rushed for over a thousand yards in 2021. The Eagles have to replace four offensive linemen, which is a concern. The defense wasn’t impressive last season either, but the offense didn’t do them many favors.

Notre Dame is traveling to Los Angeles to play traditional rival USC the week after this game. Another trap game, but this time for the ACC team’s opponent. The Jurkovec transfer story will get some attention nationally for this game. It is a fantastic opportunity for BC to make a splash, and a big victory in South Bend will boost Clemson’s SOS.
