Future coaches for Clemson football
By John Chancey
Safeties: DeAndre McDaniel
McDaniel is a candidate to step in as a defensive backs coach. He is currently the Senior Defensive Assistant and Assistant Camp Director on the support staff. He played safety for Clemson from 2007-10 and was first-team All-ACC in his junior and senior seasons. After a brief NFL career, he started a career coaching.
McDaniel would also be a candidate to replace Reed if he left, but he might be a better fit at safeties coach if Mickey Conn were to move on. Conn has been given the title of Co-Defensive Coordinator. While Goodwin will call the plays, Conn has been added to the defensive staff’s leadership structure to help with organization. If Clemson’s defense continues to excel after Venables’ exit, Conn could become a candidate to be a defensive coordinator who does call plays, or potentially a head coach at some point, for another program.
