Clemson football is reaping the rewards of their big recruiting weekend.

Clemson just completed a huge recruiting week, capped by the hosting of 31 members of the Class of 2023 for official visits on campus. Results have been coming in and it sounds like several of the attendees are now strong Clemson leans.

Clemson now has it’s first verbal commitment following the weekend, and it is from a player with a familiar name.

Avieon Terrell committed to the Tigers on Monday at 1PM on Twitter. Avieon is the younger brother of former Clemson Tiger A.J. Terrell, who now plays for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons.

Terrell (5-11, 163) is a four-star cornerback from Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia. He is ranked No. 107 in the nation by Rivals.com. He is currently the No. 16 cornerback nationally, and the No. 9 player in the state of Georgia.

Terrell earned an offer from Coach Dabo Swinney in April 2020, over a year before most offers for the Class of 2023 were distributed. Clemson’s close relationship with the family made Avieon an exception to the general recruiting rule of not handing out offers until the recruits junior season has concluded, a practice usually employed by the Tigers.

In April, Terrell announced a Top 5 of Clemson, Auburn, Texas A&M, Michigan State & Kentucky. He had previously scheduled a visit to Auburn later in June, but it is presumed that visit will be canceled.

Terrell visited Clemson on June 1st, ahead of the big official visit weekend, during the first session of Dabo Swinney’s football camp. He did not work out, but clearly his recruitment ended while meeting with the Clemson staff. It appears that he will use his official visit for a game during the 2022 season.

Terrell will be playing his senior season for the Westlake Lions this fall. He had 44 total tackles (28 solo) with one tackle for a loss during his junior season in 2021. He had two touchdowns from two interceptions and one recovered fumble.

You can see more of Terrell’s high school highlights here. It looks like the Tigers aren’t just getting part of their next generation at cornerback, but a recruiter for the 2023 Class as well.

Avieon Terrell is continuing a legacy by committing to Clemson

I am excited for Avieon and for Clemson. Last cycle, the Tigers recruited Trevor Etienne, the brother of Clemson legend Travis Etienne. Trevor ultimately elected to play his college football elsewhere because he wanted to create his own path separate from his older brother, and avoid playing in his shadow. Current 2023 recruit Matayo Uiagalelei, brother of starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei, is considering Clemson, but most analysts believe he also wants to forge a separate legacy from his older sibling. The fact that Avieon isn’t intimidated by the success of his older brother at Clemson says a lot about his personality. His enthusiasm for helping to recruit to his chosen school shows the affection he has developed for Clemson. He appears to be a good fit for the culture Coach Swinney has developed.

Next. Two targets crystal balled to Clemson. dark
