Clemson football: Expanding the recruiting board

Clemson has expanded its recruiting board.

There are varying opinions on where Clemson football stands in the recruiting world these days, with many seeing the sky falling, some see it as business as usual and a few feeling it’s somewhere in between.

What we do know though, is that the staff is expanding it’s board, which tells you something in and of itself.

Clemson is notoriously stingy with it’s offers, going through a process prior to an offer being extended and even then offering a few prospects at each position, such as two quarterbacks and initially three running backs in the 2023 cycle.

The Tigers got one of those two quarterbacks to commit, but haven’t had the same luck at running back, where traction was hard to come by with Richard Young, Justice Haynes or Cedric Baxter.

This week the Tigers expanded the board and offered Jeremiah Cobb.

Two new offers went out to prep stars from the state of Alabama

A four star out of Montgomery, Alabama, Cobb is ranked number 213 overall in the 247 composite and has a couple of crystal balls to Auburn from this spring.

Will that change now that Cobb has a Clemson offer?

That I don’t know, but what I do know is the Tigers will be battling some big names for Cobb, including Florida, Texas, Texas A&M and Penn State, along with the aforementioned Auburn and others.

In other words, the competition is stiff.

There’s a little different situation with the other new offer, the massive offensive tackle Stanton Ramil.

The 6’7, 310 pound Ramil is another Alabama kid, this time from Alabaster, and he took an unofficial visit to Clemson this weekend.

Ramil is a top 200 type player, but while he has offers from multiple SEC schools, 247 does not show offers from Alabama or Georgia.

That’s not a game stopper or the end all, and there could be various reasons for that, but it’s something to keep in the back of your mind.

I’m not even going to pretend to understand Alabama’s situation and needs along the offensive line, but they have no offensive line commitments for the 2023 class per 247.

The Tigers also offered Olsen Patt Henry, a tight end prospect out of Florida, after the decommitment of Reid Mikeska.
