In this crazy new world that we live in as Clemson football fans an important day is almost upon us on the calendar.

No, it’s not National Signing Day I or II, but the day athletes have to be in the Transfer Portal to be eligible to play at a new school in the fall.  That day is May 1, which is Sunday.

To my knowledge Clemson has not had anyone opt to enter the portal yet, but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen in the next couple of days.

As I wrote earlier in the month, transferring is not always a bad thing, even if it means a player is transferring away from Clemson.  Sometimes it’s good for the player, sometimes it’s good for the program and sometimes it’s good for both.

I honestly thought Clemson would have had players enter the portal by now, but it goes to show you that me and you really have no idea what these young men are thinking, even though we may think we do.

And, again, it’s not over till it’s over and in this case it’s not over till midnight Saturday.

There are obviously positions where Clemson can’t afford to lose many, if any, players.  The offensive line comes to mind immediately.  Also, while there are a number of quarterbacks on the squad, there’s really one or two (counting Hunter Johnson) with any real experience.

All that to say, all transfers aren’t the same.

I’ve said it many times in this forum and others that I’m all for transferring, as long as everyone realizes you’re giving up your scholarship (if you have one) and there are over 800 athletes that have done so and not enrolled in a new school.

This time of year, post-Spring Game, used to be slow and boring, with a little recruiting here and there.  Now? It’s a never ending cycle of wondering who, if anyone, is going to log on to their computer and log out of being a Clemson Tiger.

Next. Transfer portal hurts more athletes than it helps. dark
