Everyone understands that recruiting is the lifeblood of college football and Clemson football is no different.

Recruiting is a big part of this site’s success, but we don’t follow it 24/7 like some do, whether for their job, like Jason Priester, or for the “fun” of it.

I joked with one of these guys last week about not understanding how they were staying sane with all the back and forth, ups and downs, with minds (and colleges) changing on a whim.  The emoji I got in return said it all.

For the longest time Clemson has been on one commitment for the 2023 class, lagging behind others.  Now word is that the Tigers are not only in good shape with 4-star quarterback Chris Vizzina, but they may have received a commitment over the weekend, one that hasn’t been publicly announced.

There are various, non-nefarious, reasons for this and it happens more frequently than some realize.

It could be as simple as the recruit wants to tell his mom and dad first, or perhaps let another coach recruiting him know before it goes public, for example.

Whatever the case may be, it appears the Tigers are ready to increase the number of commits in the 2023 class.

As my colleague, John Chancey pointed out, Clemson’s recruiting process sometimes causes angst when they miss on a prospect.

"Clemson’s staff have been consistent with their approach to recruiting, and often focus on a smaller number of offers than most schools. It can be unnerving when they miss on a target because they often aren’t actively recruiting alternate candidates. It does appear their strategy has worked with Vizzina, and with a highly-rated quarterback recruit verbally committed, they will have one important task out of the way for the Class of 2023."

So, all this to say, recruiting is a crazy business that never ends, is unpredictable and Clemson’s process is slower developing than most.

But it feels like it’s time to get excited.
