Clemson Baseball had a 1-4 week but still hang around the D1Baseball.com rankings at #24 this week thanks to salvaging game three versus the University of Miami at Doug Kingsmore Stadium 20-5.  Most fans have been asking where this offensive output has been during the four game losing streak.

Monte Lee has been tinkering with the lineup the last few games, since the 14 game winning streak to start the season, and seemingly found one that worked, at least for one day.  Benjamin Blackwell slotted into the leadoff position from previously hitting 9th in the order and answered the bell on Sunday going 4-6 at the plate and adding a leadoff homerun in the home half of the first inning to get the Tigers rolling.

Fellow transfer student Tyler Corbitt slotted in behind Blackwell in the order and belted his first two home runs of the season, and Sunday’s tilt was never in doubt.  The Tigers got production from each of the starters recorded a hit in the series finale.

Tuesday 3/22 vs. Coastal Carolina Chanticleers @ 6PM

Looking ahead to this upcoming week, the Tigers welcome Coastal Carolina to Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Tuesday evening at 6:00pm EST.

Coastal Carolina University currently sits at 11-7-1 led by Head Coach Gary Gilmore who has been the skipper of the Chanticleers for 26 years (1001-531-2), and won the College World Series in 2016.

The Chanticleers have used Redshirt Freshman Right-hander Riley Eikhoff (1-0; 4.11 ERA in 9 appearances) in the majority of their mid-week games thus far and likely to get the nod on Tuesday.

At the plate, “Super” Senior 2B Matt McDermott leads the team in hitting with a .339 average across 19 games with 15 runs batted in.  Senior Left-Fielder Tyler Johnson has also started the season strong with a .333 avg.  The Chants are led in home runs by Junior 3B Dale Thomas with 6 HRs and 17 runs batted in.

Coastal has victories on this young season versus Kent State, Central Michigan, Rutgers, West Virginia, Illinois, Wake Forest, Ball State (x2) and Louisiana Monroe.

Their loses have come Kent State, UNC Wilmington, UNC Chapel Hill (x3), Xavier, and Louisiana Monroe.

The tie on their record was also with Louisiana Monroe, which was deemed a “time-limit” tie after a 17-17 score after 8 innings.
