Clemson football: Justyn Ross is due for a breakout performance
The return to the field as a Clemson football player hasn’t necessarily gone as planned for Justyn Ross thus far.
Ross missed the entire 2020 Clemson football season as he worked hard to rehab from a spinal surgery and was finally given full clearance earlier this summer to return to all football-related activities.
He was mentioned in basically everyone’s preseason list as one of the top wide receivers in the nation and it just hasn’t worked out that way thus far as we enter what might be the final month of his career at Clemson.
Justyn Ross is due for a breakout game and this Clemson football team needs him
Through these first eight games of the season, Ross has 38 receptions for 416 yards and three touchdowns.
There are a lot of factors going into why Ross’s season hasn’t gone as many had hoped.
He’s had an inconsistent quarterback in DJ Uiagalelei who has seemingly battled confidence issues the entire season. In addition, the Tigers have had struggles along the offensive line at times and the play-calling has come into issue, as well.
Ross had a few drops earlier in the season and there have been times where his chemistry with Uiagalelei has just been off.
But, over the last couple of weeks, we have started to see some better chemistry between the QB and WR. He has been playing more on the outside and it seems there is a comfort level being out at the boundary versus playing in the slot.
All of that, factored into what we’re hoping the Tigers will build on offensively, makes me believe that Ross is due for a breakout game. He’s due for potentially a game where he scores a couple of touchdowns or makes a spectacular play that is showcased on ESPN SportsCenter.
It’s time for Ross to have a breakout game and, potentially, it could come this weekend against a depleted Louisville secondary.
