There has been a large contingent of the Clemson football fanbase who have voiced their displeasures and criticisms of Offensive Coordinator Tony Elliott during this 2021 season.

Elliott, who was the play-caller for two National Championships, is currently the leader of one of the nation’s worst offenses and, unfortunately, the unit hasn’t improved near as much as many would’ve hoped over the course of the season.

Despite the abysmal season we are seeing unfold, it seems there is still interest for Elliott on the open market.

247 Sports’ Chris Hummer reported on Wednesday that TCU is looking to interview three key names: Deion Sanders, Jay Norvell and Tony Elliott. He also pointed out that representatives of current Dallas Cowboys OC Kellen Moore have reached out to TCU.

Could TCU poach the Clemson football offensive coordinator & is it time to move on?

Nothing can be confirmed at this point and there is still a long way to go in any candidate being named the new hire, but it does seem from everything we’ve gathered that there is legitimate interest in Elliott from the TCU perspective and this might be the perfect fit– and timing– for him to begin his head coaching career.

While Elliott would be an excellent candidate for TCU, the Horned Frogs have some options on the table and they’re clearly not ‘All In’ on any coach as of yet.

If Elliott were to take a head coaching job this offseason– whether it be at TCU or somewhere else– it would be interesting to see what assistants he might bring with him. Typically, you see at least 2-3 assistants follow a coordinator when they leave for a head coaching position and this might be the case in Clemson, as well.

This would also lead to the question as to what Dabo Swinney would do in response. Many have speculated that Brandon Streeter would be the next Offensive Coordinator, but perhaps the many struggles we’ve seen this season would entice Swinney to look outside of the current program and bring in a fresh set of eyes.

For now, though, it’s all just speculation.
