The Clemson football team hasn’t necessarily stormed out of the gate as many would’ve hoped thus far through two weeks in the 2021 season.

The Tigers dropped the season-opener by a score of 10-3 to the Georgia Bulldogs and then rebounded last week with a 49-3 win over in-state FCS opponent S.C. State.

Now, as we enter conference play, there are many Clemson football fans who still have questions and concerns as to what this team will look like and what they’ll be able to accomplish.

Of course, we just want to see all the problems fixed. We’d love to see the Clemson offense put up 70 points, but at this point, we’re not sure that can be realistically projected.

Here’s a look at three expectations for this weekend that are reasonable.

Three totally reasonable expectations for Clemson football against Georgia Tech

1. The defense continues its dominance

The first reasonable expectation that Tiger fans should have is that the defense continues its dominance.

People are quick to forget that Clemson’s defense held UGA’s offense to just three points and then held S.C. State to three points last weekend, as well. That means the unit– two weeks into the season– still hasn’t given up a touchdown.

Georgia Tech has some play-makers and they’ve got an interesting situation at quarterback where Jeff Sims or Jordan Yates could be the starter and we may very well see both before the afternoon is finished.

That being said, there’s no reason to think that the Tigers shouldn’t continue their dominant ways on defense. The front-seven should be able to overpower Georgia Tech’s questionable offensive line and that should create some negative-yardage plays.

In the end, the Yellow Jackets might muster more than three points, but it will still be dominance on the side of the Tiger defense.
