One of the top priority targets in the 2022 Clemson football recruiting class announced his intentions Wednesday afternoon in what will prove to be a major decision for the Tigers.

5-star CB Jeadyn Lukus, an in-state prospect, announced on Twitter that he would be committing to Clemson. He chose the Tigers over finalists North Carolina and Ohio State.

Lukus is rated as the No. 1 player from the state of South Carolina and the No. 6 overall cornerback in the nation by the 247 Sports’ composite player rankings. He is the No. 32 overall player in the nation and considered a 5-star by the rankings. He is rated as a 4-star by Rivals.com and is considered the No. 32 player in the nation and the No. 5 cornerback, according to the publication.

Jeadyn Lukus is an instant impact player for Clemson football

We pinpointed Lukus as the top target for the 2022 recruiting cycle a couple of months ago for Clemson football and it’s easy to see why.

Lukus will obviously develop in the program once he gets on campus, but we like most about him is the fact that he has the talent and skill to factor into the two-deep from the very beginning. He is one of the best pure coverage cornerbacks in this class and he’s going to be a player who takes the defense to another level in terms of the way he is able to mirror wide receivers on their routes.

Many recruiting analysts have him billed as a solid second-rounder at the next level and there’s certainly a chance that he could develop into one of the top cornerbacks nationally before his collegiate career comes to a close, just talking about potential.

Lukus joins 4-star Daylen Everette and 4-star Toriano Pride as the third cornerback commitment for this 2022 class, giving the Tigers- at least on paper- their best and deepest class of cornerbacks in the Dabo Swinney era.

With Lukus’s commitment, Clemson football is now ranked No. 10 in the nation by both the 247 Sports’ composite rankings and by the Rivals.com rankings.
