The Clemson football coaching staff is constantly planning for the future and is always involved in recruiting.

One of the top targets for the class of 2023 is a Clemson football legacy. 4-star LB Josiah Trotter, the brother of current Clemson freshman linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr., has released his final group of schools and the Tigers are involved.

Trotter- who is rated as the No. 11 linebacker in the country and the No. 5 overall player from the state of Pennsylvania according to the 247 Sports’ composite player rankings for the 2023 class- listed Clemson, South Carolina, Penn State and Ohio State as his top schools.

There’s a reason that Trotter is one of the top linebacker prospects for Clemson football in the 2023 cycle

Trotter is just now a rising junior, but he already measures at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds. He has drawn rave reviews at the camps he has attended and there is certainly promise that he will end up as an NFL-caliber linebacker before it’s all said and done.

Trotter is one of just four linebacker offers from Clemson in his recruiting cycle currently.

When looking at his schools, it’s easy to see the connection to Clemson and Penn State (his in-state school). His father- Jeremiah Trotter- was an All-Pro and is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles Hall of Fame. It’s also easy to see why he’d be considering Ohio State, as Columbus is still in fair proximity to his home and the Buckeyes are one of the top contenders in the country year-in and year-out.

What’s interesting, though, is the South Carolina addition. Perhaps his father has relationships or connections at the University of South Carolina that has added intrigue for Trotter. Maybe he has come to like the state of South Carolina and is interested in play head-to-head against his brother.

We’ll have more on his recruitment as it progresses, but for now the main thing Clemson football fans should know is that he is a talented prospect and the Tigers are heavily involved.
