The Clemson football coaching staff has their work cut out for them as we head into the summer.

The Tigers currently have just four commitments for the 2022 class and are ranked outside of the top-20 in the nation in terms of recruiting classes, but we all know that can change very quickly.

As we head into the summer, one of the major focuses for Clemson is going to be on defensive ends.

The Tigers have a broad board when it comes to defensive end prospects and the expectation is that they’ll end up with two commitments before the cycle comes to a close. But who are the prospects that they’ll end up zeroing-in on as their top targets? That’s something that remains to be seen.

One 4-star Clemson football target has interest but timing might be a problem

4-star DE Enai White recently did an interview with Rivals’ Adam Friedman and discussed his recruiting in-depth heading into the summer.

White revealed that he will take four official visits during the month of June, which include Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Ohio State. He’ll also take unofficial visits to Clemson, Oregon, Miami and Texas A&M.

When discussing each school in-depth as to why they had his interest, White gave the most detailed answer when he talked about Clemson football.

"“The vibe at Clemson is really different,” White said to Rivals.com. “I got the best vibe out of them. When I was talking with them, I felt something I didn’t feel at other schools. I really wish I could take an official visit this summer but they don’t do official visits in the summer. I’d need to wait and do it in the fall. The system they have is really good there too. A lot of players have gone there and succeeded on the field. I felt that family vibe when I talk with them and that’s what stood out.”"

Those comments about ‘being different’ and the ‘family atmosphere’ show the legitimate intrigue that White has in Clemson.

Each recruit gets five official visits and the truth is that if he was able to take an official to Clemson this summer- but the Tigers don’t do officials in the summer- he would have.

Though he has a ‘top eight,’ you can really tell that it’s down to five schools: Those four mentioned above who he’s taking official visits to and then Clemson.

The major hurdle that the Tigers will have to overcome? White said that his plan is to make a decision before the start of his senior year.

"“I do want to be committed before I start my senior season,” he said. “If I’m not feeling 100% on a school, I might wait. The plan is to do it before my 12th grade year.”"

There is a chance still that he might not commit until a little later in the fall, but it’s clear that the majority of his recruitment is going to be done this summer and that he is planning on it coming to a close sooner rather than later.

When he has taken official visits to his other four top choices and not one to Clemson, it’s tough to see the Tigers garnering a commitment. It’s happened before, but the truth of the matter is that timing just might not be on the side of the Tigers in this circumstance.
