Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is one of the most recognizable figures in College Football today.

Though Dabo Swinney started out as a loveable, passionate personality who was very rarely hated, the entire national landscape pertaining to him has changed over the past few years.

While some will point to comments he has made as reasons for their disdain, the truth is that the hate really resides in the success of the Clemson football program.

No one ever saw Clemson football becoming such a major success and power under Swinney’s leadership and now that the Tigers are consistently on top, the success is nauseating for opposing fan bases.

Dabo Swinney was booed at the Charlotte Hornets basketball game Sunday evening

According to the AP’s Steve Reed, Dabo Swinney was introduced as an attendee of the Charlotte Hornets‘ game against the Portland Trailblazers Sunday evening and he received a less-than-welcoming response.

It’s amazing how quick things can turn, but it shouldn’t really be all that surprising that Swinney would draw the ire from fans who reside in the state of North Carolina.

The UNC Tar Heels are beginning to make a run at becoming competitive in the ACC and Swinney has absolutely dominated that entire state for more than a half-decade. As a matter of fact, he’s won more championships in the city of Charlotte than all of the sports franchises combined in that city have ever won.

Winning breeds haters and that’s exactly what’s happening with Swinney and Clemson football as a whole.

Just like Nick Saban has drawn hatred from opposing fan bases for years- now in his later years, it’s beginning to turn to respect- we should expect the same thing to be true for Dabo Swinney.

More than anything else, it’s all in good fun and Swinney has a saying that he surely continues to live by:

“Don’t worry about criticism from people you wouldn’t seek advice from.”
