4. What doubters say: Trevor Lawrence was bailed out by elite wide receivers

There are so many throws that you’ll see on Lawrence’s highlight film that doubters will just chalk up to ‘elite wide receivers making plays.’

While it’s certainly true that Justyn Ross, Cornell Powell, Tee Higgins and Hunter Renfrow helped progress Lawrence’s career, to say that his receivers are the reason he put up the numbers he did or was able to score at the rate he did is just not accurate.

Lawrence led some of the top statistical scoring offenses in Clemson football history and it all started with his leadership.

Was he bailed out on some occasions with 50/50 balls? Sure. But if you go and look at the throws he made, even on many completions, Lawrence placed the ball in a spot where only his receiver could go up and make a play.

That’s a skill that only pro-level QBs possess and it’s something that we saw time and time again when he was at Clemson.
