Dabo Swinney stopped Clemson football practice to celebrate WR E.J. Williams on Monday

The Clemson football team returned to the practice field Monday afternoon after spring break and there were several interesting notes.

The Tigers are beginning to focus on getting the players on the field who they feel can help them win this coming fall and one of those standouts has been WR E.J. Williams.

According to Clemson Sports Talk, Dabo Swinney told the media that he stopped practice to let Williams know he loved what he was seeing from him.

While that may not seem like a big deal on the surface, when you consider Swinney’s background and the glimpses of greatness we saw from Williams during his freshman season, it paints a really encouraging picture for the Tigers heading into the 2021 season.

E.J. Williams has rightfully earned the praise and is going to be a major contributor during the 2021 Clemson football season

Watching Williams last season, you knew he was going to be a special player. He’s clearly showing that ability in practice here in the spring and that’s a good sign for Clemson football as the Tigers look to regain that status of ‘WRU’ this season.

Williams has an opportunity to not only contribute in a big way, but to be a major catalyst for that Tiger offense this season.

He’s entrenched in a starting battle at wide receiver and, right now, he’d likely be the starter at the boundary position if the season started today.

It will be interesting seeing how Williams progresses over the summer and what he looks like in fall camp, but it’s clear that his coaches are impressed with what he is bringing to the field here in the midst of spring practice.
