Chicago Bears are desperate after missing on Deshaun Watson

Former Clemson QB Deshaun Watson is looking to get out of Houston and the Chicago Bears are desperate to land a quarterback.

Oh, the irony.

We’d like to take you back to a moment many Clemson football fans remember well: The 2017 NFL Draft. The Chicago Bears traded up during the first-round of the draft to select UNC’s Mitchell Trubisky with the No. 2 overall pick.

Following the Bears’ selection, two more quarterbacks would come off the board: Patrick Mahomes (No. 10 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs) and Deshaun Watson (No. 12 overall to the Houston Texans).

While NFL Draft analysts talked about the great potential of Trubisky, Clemson fans knew that the Bears had missed out on game-changing playmaker.

Now, four years later, the Bears are desperately in need of a quarterback and if they want Deshaun Watson, they’re going to have to pay dearly

There were reports that the Bears were interested in bringing in QB Ben Roethlisberger– who will turn 40 this year- had he been cut by the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s how desperate the Bears are to land a quarterback.

Chicago has been on the phone trying to get in touch with the Texans, but the truth of the matter is that if they do somehow land Watson the second time around, it’s going to cost them dearly. We’re talking years of first-round picks, loads of draft capital and perhaps even support players to get a deal done.

Oh, what could’ve been for the Bears had they only stopped listening to Mel Kiper and looked at what Watson was accomplishing on the field.

It’s a lesson to be learned, for sure. There are complexities to the pro game that have to be taken into account, but when you have a proven winner who displays all the skills and intangibles to be successful at the next level, you shouldn’t overthink it.

Or else, you’ll be in the same boat as the Chicago Bears.
