Clemson football: Isaiah Simmons, Travis Etienne still battling on who won infamous race
Isaiah Simmons & Travis Etienne still battle over who won infamous race back in their days as Clemson football teammates
Every Clemson football fan remembers the day we saw a video of Isaiah Simmons and Travis Etienne racing stride-for-stride with one another.
At first glance, you could say the race was a ‘photo finish’ and you might declare either of the Tigers the winner. If you continue to watch the video, though, one can see that it looked as if Isaiah Simmons came out just a few centimeters ahead.
Well, it would seem that NFL Draft 40-yard dash times have confirmed as much.
At 215 pounds, Travis Etienne ran an impressive 4.40 during the 40-yard dash on Thursday at Clemson‘s Pro Day. That time was not official since the NFL Combine is not taking place in-person this year, but it was still a spectacular performance that many scouts came away from saying that Etienne had improved his draft stock.
Shortly after Etienne’s run was posted on Twitter by the official Clemson football account, Isaiah Simmons quoted it and gave us all what we were looking for:
For those that don’t remember, Simmons ran a 4.39 laser time at the NFL Combine last spring. That would officially make his time a tenth faster than his former Clemson football counterpart.
Of course, it didn’t take long for Etienne to reply to Simmons with a cleverly-placed GIF.
Both are Clemson football greats and there’s no doubt they have bright careers ahead of them
It took Isaiah Simmons some time to adjust with the Arizona Cardinals, but no one can question his potential. In a second year with Arizona, we should expect great strides to be made by the former Tiger.
And then there’s Travis Etienne.
Etienne is one of the top playmakers in the draft class and his explosiveness is going to get him on the field right away. Etienne is going to start at running back this coming season for an NFL franchise and there’s no doubt that he and Simmons will have fun if they’re able to go up against each other at some point in the near future.
Who would win if the two had a race today? Your guess is as good as mine, but one thing’s for sure: We’d all be blown away watching it.
