Clemson football: CBS Sports impressed with D.J. Uiagalelei & 2021 squad
CBS Sports impressed with D.J. Uiagalelei and that 2021 Clemson football squad
The 2021 Clemson football team has a chance to compete for a National Championship and there’s not much more that Tiger fans could ask for than that.
While Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne are gone, the D.J. Uiagalelei era is being ushered in a big way and there is promise that he could be just as good (if not better) than the Tigers’ last two quarterbacks- who by the way are the two best QBs in program history.
CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodd provided ’21 things to know heading into the spring’ for College Football and he had glowing words to say about both Uiagalelei and Clemson as a whole, ranking the Tigers No. 1 in the preseason rankings.
"“The Tigers started the offseason No. 1, at least in this corner of the world. If not for the transfer of linebacker Mike Jones Jr., all 11 defenders would return. I’ve already said it: Sophomore quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei might eventually be better than Lawrence. A bunch of receivers return. If you attend one spring practice (socially distanced, of course), Clemson should be it. This spring kicks off Dabo Swinney’s pursuit of a third national title in the last six years,” Dodd wrote."
Clemson football has an opportunity to be great, but it all starts with an effective & efficient spring
This Clemson football team has an opportunity to be one of the greatest in program history.
As Dodd referenced, the Tigers return nine starters from last year’s team- Mike Jones Jr. and Derion Kendrick are the only two who won’t be returning- and there is plenty of experienced depth and rising talent behind those starters, as well.
Offensively, Clemson may be losing two historically-great playmakers, but the Tigers are replacing them with more talent. Uiagalelei does have the potential to be the greatest quarterback in Clemson history before it’s all said and done.
He’s got a deep stable of running backs and the Tigers finally have a depth chart filled with star-studded and healthy wide receivers, which will be a massive upgrade to last season.
If the offensive line is able to improve, there’s nothing standing in the way of this team being a legitimate competitor for the National Title when it’s all said and done.
