Clemson football: Finebaum proves UGA is most disappointing program ever
It’s not very often that Clemson football fans will agree with something said on the Paul Finebaum Show, but they just might here
The Clemson football team will open up the 2021 season against an old rival in the Georgia Bulldogs, who once again believe ‘they’re back and ready to compete for a National Title.’
If you’re a Clemson football fan and you’ve lived in the area for long enough, you’ve heard your fair share of Georgia fans during the preseason of basically every year imaginable talk about the greatness of their program, the resources available in Athens, the elite recruiting being done and the talent that the Bulldogs possess year-in and year-out.
On his show earlier this week, Paul Finebaum had Andy Staples on to talk about the SEC. Staples made the comment that the best job in America is Georgia and while Finebaum didn’t push too hard, he made it clear he believed that honor belonged to Alabama.
The Athletic’s David Ubben backed up Staples’ statement and even went on to say that people who argue differently don’t understand College Football at all.
Clemson football fans may not agree with either of the guys in terms of ‘the best job’ conversation, but the one thing we think most Tigers can agree with Finebaum on is that it’s not Georgia.
Or, if it is Georgia, the Bulldogs are the most disappointing College Football program of all-time.
If Georgia is the best job in the country, why has a simple program like Clemson football won three National Titles since the Bulldogs won one?
You can’t constantly talk about all the resources at your disposal and the talent you possess while living in consistent mediocrity.
Every year we hear about how Georgia is going to break out. Every year, we hear about how the Bulldogs are a different team and how they are a ‘sleeping giant.’
No one has ever argued that Georgia doesn’t have talent. No one has ever argued that Georgia doesn’t have resources. No one has ever argued that Georgia doesn’t have the tools needed to win National Championships. But the end result speaks a different story.
UGA hasn’t won a National Championship since 1980 and there have been many years along the way where they haven’t even been competitive in their own league.
We only bring this up because Clemson football fans are going to be in for a summer of hearing tons of talking from both fans and analysts who want to bolster the Bulldogs up- just as they do every year- and, as a result of that, they’re going to talk the Tigers down.
Staples and many others are going to continue to harp on the ‘powerhouse of Georgia’ and how the Bulldogs have ‘all these great things,’ but until it translates to results on the field (and perhaps it finally will- even a broke clock is right two times a day), these discussions just continue to prove that UGA is the ultimate underachiever of College Football.
