Clemson football: Breaking down the TE position by star-ratings
Breaking down the Clemson football tight end position by star-ratings
The Clemson football program has built itself from the ground up over the last decade under the leadership of Dabo Swinney.
The Tigers are now recruiting at a level higher than we’ve seen before and they’re continuously replenishing their roster with talented players.
Rubbing the Rock has been breaking down each position group by star-ratings over the last couple of weeks and we’ve now made it to the tight ends.
Here’s a look at the star-ratings for the tight ends on the Clemson roster, according to 247 Sports’ Composite Player Rankings.
- Braden Galloway (3-star, No. 41 TE in 2018)
- Davis Allen (3-star, No. 39 TE in 2019)
- Jaelyn Lay (4-star, No. 10 TE in 2019)
- Sage Ennis (3-star, No. 23 TE in 2020)
- Jake Briningstool (4-star, No. 1 TE in 2021)
Clemson football hasn’t necessarily recruited the best tight ends, but things are getting better and better at the position
There aren’t many tight ends who end as 4-stars or 5-star, so the 3-star accolades shouldn’t be all that surprising.
That being said, it is a little surprising to see how far down the list some of these guys were ranked coming out of high school, in particular Galloway and Allen, who were outside the top 38 tight ends in the country, according to recruiting rankings. While both are still developing, they certainly look like they have the talent and skill set to get the job done and to make an impact at the highest level.
Maybe the most exciting part of this tight end group is the recruitment of Jake Briningstool. To get the No. 1 tight end in the country is a big deal. Briningstool is a guy who is going to come in and immediately vie for playing time.
The result is that we’re going to see an extremely competitive tight end room throughout the spring heading into the fall.
