Clemson football just got a boost with C.J. Spiller as RBs Coach

Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney knew exactly what he was doing when he made the decision to promote C.J. Spiller to Running Backs Coach.

Just a few weeks ago, it was reported that the Clemson football program would have a bit of a ‘shakeup’ within its coaching staff.

Offensive Coordinator Tony Elliott has now relinquished duties of coaching the running backs and will, instead, coach tight ends. Danny Pearman, who was coaching tight ends, will hold a role off-the-field evaluating talent in the NCAA Transfer Portal and former Clemson football running back C.J. Spiller- who worked as an unpaid assistant last year- will now be the new RBs Coach.

That’s a major boost for Clemson.

C.J. Spiller brings so much to the table for the Clemson football program

This has nothing to do with Tony Elliott, it has everything to do with bringing in another great football mind who will do nothing but represent the program with great class and passion.

One thing that Elliott has become known for- other than his schematic knowledge- is his absolute love of Clemson. It resonates on the recruiting trail and is evident in how he has gone about potential Head Coaching job searches in the past.

We’re going to see the same passion from C.J. Spiller.

You’re talking about a College Football Hall of Famer on your coaching staff. You’re talking about a guy that- not all that long ago- played at the collegiate level and then went on to play in the NFL for an extended period of time. He knows what it takes to get there and he also knows that Clemson is the perfect place to get young athletes there.

That’s going to resonate on the recruiting trail.

We can talk all day about Spiller’s coaching ability, but it’s the things that we don’t necessarily see on the surface with him that are going to help boost this program.

Spiller can coach and he can connect with young athletes. He’s going to be a natural recruiter because of the love that he has had for Clemson for more than a decade now and future running back prospects are going to flock to him because of how authenticity.

Spiller brings so much more to the table than what we can understand from the outside-looking in and that’s why this was such a big-time promotion for Dabo Swinney to make.
