4-star QB trending towards Clemson football as decision date looms large
4-star Clemson football QB target Ty Simpson has set his decision date.
On Twitter this past weekend, Simpson announced that he would be making his decision on Friday, Feb. 19 at Westview High School at 2 p.m. central time- which is 3 p.m. eastern time.
Simpson, who is rated as the No. 2 dual-threat QB in the nation according to 247 Sports’ composite player rankings, has offers from basically every major program and there are several schools who believe they’re in the mix, including Clemson.
The overarching opinion from recruiting insiders has been that this is a race between Clemson, Tennessee and Alabama. The Vols were considered the favorites as his in-state school, but they just fired Head Coach Jeremy Pruitt and made a questionable hire in Josh Heupel from UCF. Tennessee is facing potential penalties from the NCAA and the thought was that Simpson would be slowing down his recruitment to see how things shook out there.
With that hire and him announcing that he will committing at the end of this month, many are starting to believe this may be a battle between Clemson and Alabama. Of course, you can’t count out Tennessee or even Notre Dame or Texas A&M at this point.
Still, the more we look at his recruitment, the more it seems like he is trending towards Clemson football
247 Sports’ National Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong put in a crystal ball prediction in favor of Clemson football on Sunday. He listed his confidence as ‘medium.’
The only other crystal ball prediction is from Clemson 247 Insider Anna Hickey, who placed her prediction back in October and listed the confidence as fairly high.
As we said earlier, sings would point to Simpson trending towards Clemson but that doesn’t mean this is a done deal by any stretch of the imagination.
Simpson is a talented QB who has been compared to Johnny Manziel because of his play-making ability and absolute cannon for an arm.
Clemson offered Simpson back in August of 2020. He currently garners more than 35 Power-5 offers.
