Spoiler Alert: Trevor Lawrence not likely to win Heisman Trophy

Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence is one of just four finalists for the 2020 Heisman Trophy, but the truth of the matter is that he’s not likely to take home the hardware when it’s all said and done.

The Heisman Trophy virtual presentation will take place at 7 p.m. E.T. tonight on ESPN and there are hopes that Trevor Lawrence could be the first Tiger in the history of the program to win the award.

Unfortunately, that just doesn’t seem like it will be the case.

Of the four finalists, Lawrence probably has the second-best shot simply because of how voting is tallied but there is a clear favorite heading into tonight’s ceremony and, interestingly enough, it’s not a quarterback.

Trevor Lawrence joins several other talented players and though he is the clear face of College Football, he won’t bring home the award

Alabama’s DeVonta Smith has been getting quite the amount of love and admiration from the media and it’s clear that he’s the favorite heading into tonight’s ceremony- as weird as that sounds.

Join Smith and Lawrence are Mac Jones (Alabama QB) and Kyle Trask (Florida QB) as finalists.

Keep in mind that the votes for the Heisman were placed after conference championship weekend and not after the CFB Playoff semifinals, which would help Lawrence a bit but probably not enough to win the award.

While there aren’t as many AP voters as there are Heisman voters, the AP made it clear what direction the media as a whole were headed in when they placed Lawrence on the third-team AP All-American team behind Jones and Trask.

When you put the love for Smith (and he certainly deserves it) and the dominance of Alabama together with how the media (and the narratives that have been set) has reacted to Trevor Lawrence, it paints a bleak picture for him bringing home the award.

Without Lawrence, there is no college football season. He made it happen and absolutely deserves to be called ‘the most outstanding player in the country’ in 2020, but we’re going ahead and playing spoiler and letting you know that’s not likely to happen Tuesday evening.
