Clemson football needs to do some soul searching after consecutive disappointing performances

After another dismantling in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome it is time for Clemson football to do some soul searching.

This writer has long been frustrated by the lack of physical line play. I get it back when you were building the program and you could not recruit the big time Jimmies and Joes along the offensive line, you use scheme that allows you to mitigate that weakness. Now that you are capable of recruiting better athletes across the board, it is time for your schemes to evolve.

In less than 365 days you have been outscored 91-53 on the biggest stage. That’s certainly cause  to take a hard look in the mirror and evolve.

Just like what happened against LSU, Clemson was simply outclassed when they met Ohio State. It is time for the scheme to match the talent. It is time to stop recruiting projects and get guys who have a greater skill and tools coming in.

This goes for the back end of the defense also. While I believe better days are ahead for many members of this Clemson defensive backfield, the Tigers need to attract elite athletes to play on this back end if they are going to do more than just get to the College Football Playoff moving forward.

You can see how the NFL is influencing Ohio State, Alabama, you saw it from LSU. These elite teams have borrowed from NFL playbooks and adapted them. It is time for the Tigers to do the same.

That disappointing loss in New Orleans will leave a bad taste in Clemson fans until the Tigers take the field in Charlotte next fall but happier days are ahead for this football program.
