Heisman Trophy is a sham if Trevor Lawrence isn’t the winner

The best player in the country is Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence and it’s not even a conversation anymore.

Trevor Lawrence led the Tigers to a 34-10 dismantling of the No. 2-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the ACC Championship game Saturday evening and that performance was exactly what was needed for the quarterback in his pursuit of the prestigious Heisman Trophy.

Lawrence finished the night throwing for 322 yards and two touchdowns, as well as rushing for 90 yards and a touchdown.

His balance, leadership and presence was the difference in the game for the offense and made that Notre Dame defense just look silly at times as a result.

In the end, Lawrence was named the MVP of the ACC Championship– deservedly so- and Head Coach Dabo Swinney had some words for Heisman voters during the trophy presentation.

"“It would be a crying shame if the Heisman Trophy doesn’t attach its name to Trevor Lawrence,” Swinney said via ClemsonSI. “That’s what I’ve got to say about that guy. I know that’s become a stat award, but if you watch college football and you don’t know this guy’s the best player in college football, I don’t know what you’re looking at.”"

Swinney later reiterated that it’s frustrating that he even has to campaign for Lawrence because there’s simply no doubt in his mind where the award should go.

Trevor Lawrence absolutely is Heisman worthy and anything less would be a shame, as Swinney said

There is no doubt who the best player in the country is.

Lawrence is the reason we’re having a College Football season. He has consistently led this Clemson football team and is going to be the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft just a few months from now.

There are some really good players across the nation, for sure, but none have been of the magnitude of Trevor Lawrence.

Lawrence has done everything asked of him and has continued to excel with flying colors. He’s making an impact both on and off the field and he deserves to have his name called and associated with the award.

Anything less than that and, honestly, the Heisman Trophy just continues to prove to be a sham.
