Clemson football might be losing one of its top assistants following this season

The Clemson football program may be looking to replace one of its assistant coaches following the 2020 season, according to latest reports.

The Clemson Insider’s Will Vandervort reported Friday night that Clemson Offensive Coordinator Tony Elliott will interview for the head coaching vacancy at Auburn. According to Vandervort’s report, Elliott will be interviewed by Auburn on Sunday following the ACC Championship game and that he is ‘seriously being considered as a candidate.’

There have been times in the past where Elliott has been rumored for an opening, but has declined to interview. That won’t be the case this time.

According to TCI, Auburn OC Steve Sarkisian, DC Kevin Steele (who once worked in the Clemson football program) and Louisiana’s Billy Napier (who also once worked in Clemson) will also interview for the job.

Elliott is a strong candidate for a reason and Clemson football is prepared for what’s next if he does get offered the job

There’s a reason that Tony Elliott has been rumored for several job openings throughout the years. It has been made pretty clear that his goal has been to be a head coach and he has patiently waited for the right opportunity to come around.

You couldn’t find a much better first gig than a traditional SEC power in Auburn that also has a solid recruiting base, a large alumni and is hungry to win.

If Elliott does get offered the job- and there’s certainly a chance that ends up being the case- the Clemson football program is ready for what’s next.

Dabo Swinney has done an excellent job promoting from within in the past and we can expect that much of the same will happen this time around.

We’ll have more on the situation as it unfolds and what things could look like for Clemson if Elliott does get the job.
