Clemson football holds the integrity of the entire ACC in its hands

The integrity of the entire Atlantic Coastal Conference rests on the shoulders of Clemson football as we head into the matchup with Notre Dame.

The Clemson football team is currently preparing for a conference title game against the No. 2-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, that is set for next Saturday, Dec. 19 in Charlotte, NC.

There’s only one problem. Notre Dame isn’t a full-time member of the conference.

For just the 2020 season, the ACC made a deal with the Fighting Irish that they would give them 10 conference games and allow them to compete for the conference crown with no strings attached.

That’s right. When the ACC had the most leverage it’s ever going to have to lure Notre Dame into the conference as a full-time member, it whiffed terribly.

And now, with a win over Clemson football, Notre Dame could make the entire conference a laughing stock

Say it doesn’t matter and I think you’re sadly mistaken.

Notre Dame has already beaten Clemson once and if the Fighting Irish were to pull off another win, they would have beaten the conference’s best team twice and would be able to put an ACC Championship Trophy in their case, all the while quickly erasing the conference’s logo from their football field and waving goodbye with a sly smirk.

If Notre Dame wins the ACC Championship, the entire conference will have ‘egg on its face.’

You’re talking about a team stepping into your conference and winning with a perfect record.

Talk about a recruiting fiasco. Talk about the amount of never-ending pretentious, snobby, boastful and domineering comments that fans from not only Clemson, but the entire ACC would have to endure from Fighting Irish fans who already think they’re the glorified gift to entire western world.

Notre Dame fans have made it clear they have no desire or intent to join the conference. They think they’re above it and too good to be anything other than a proud Independent.

If the ACC wants to have any credibility at all as a ‘football conference’ moving forward, Clemson has to win this game.

Next. 5 things we wish could change about 2020 season. dark

Isn’t it ironic? The entire ACC- its perception, pride and notoriety- once again rests on the shoulders of Clemson football.
