Could Uiagalelei become the best quarterback in Clemson football history?

The best quarterback in Clemson football history might be sitting on the bench for the Tigers currently as we progress through the 2020 season.

The Clemson football program has seen an absolutely unreal run at quarterbacks over the last decade with Tajh Boyd starting it all. Followed by Boyd’s tenure- which set basically ever program record in the history books- in came Deshaun Watson.

Watson left as the greatest player in Clemson football history, leading the Tigers to their first National Championship in 30 years and two National Title appearances.

Just when things couldn’t get any better, Trevor Lawrence came along. Lawrence’s career hasn’t come to an end yet, but he has already proven to be one of the greatest of all time. He has led Clemson to two National Title appearances, including a win as a freshman, and has only lost one game in his career as the starter. And to top all of that, Lawrence is set to be the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s NFL Draft- a feat never accomplished by a Clemson football player before.

All these greats in such a short time of one another and, somehow, could the best still be yet to come?

D.J. Uiagalelei is a special Clemson football player and there’s no denying it

There’s no way to sit here in November of 2020 and to say that Uiagalelei will finish as the best QB in the history of the Clemson football program.

There’s also no way to sit here in November of 2020 and say that he won’t be.

Uiagalelei got to start two games these past couple of weeks with Lawrence out and he absolutely showed Tiger fans that the future is bright. In two full games, Uiagalelei threw for 781 yards, completed 69.4 percent of his passes and accounted for six touchdowns.

On the road against Notre Dame– a top-four opponent- Uiagalelei threw for a record 439 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for a touchdown.

We’re not saying that Uiagalelei will surpass Lawrence or Watson or even Boyd when it’s all said and done, but there’s plenty of reasons to believe that he certainly will land in the same stratosphere with the little we’ve gotten to see him play.

Next. 5 areas to place blame in loss to Notre Dame. dark

Uiagalelei has the arm strength of Lawrence, the tank of Boyd and the mentality of Watson. He’s a guy that is going to be special for years to come- well after he leaves Clemson football- and there’s nothing stopping him from becoming one of the greatest Tigers of all-time, perhaps even reaching GOAT status when it’s all said and done.
