The Clemson football team can beat Notre Dame with its backup QB

There’s no doubt that Clemson football has a lot to clean up before its battle with Notre Dame next week, but the Tigers are safe at quarterback.

Star QB Trevor Lawrence will not be available for the game against the Fighting Irish in South Bend and that means it’ll be true-freshman QB D.J. Uiagalelei that takes the field for the Tigers in the monumental matchup.

If that’s the case and Uiagalelei is the quarterback, there is one thing he proved against Boston College: The Tigers will be just fine with him running the offense.

Clemson football has a lot to clean up, but the list doesn’t start with Uiagalelei by any means

Uiagalelei still has areas he can clean up. He overthrew several targets- especially going to his left side- and that’s something the Tigers will address this week and moving forward, for sure. He took a sack early in the game and handed the ball off a bit too high to Travis Etienne on a play that resulted in the fumble at the one-yard line and a touchdown for Boston College.

All of that being said, Uiagalelei proved Saturday afternoon that he’s more than capable of beating any team in the country- as a true-freshman, nonetheless.

He made some throws over the course of the game that only one other player in College Football can make- and that’s Trevor Lawrence.

No, as we head into the Notre Dame game this coming weekend, the issues of beating the Fighting Irish are placed in two very different areas: The offensive line and the Tiger defensive unit.

Clemson’s offensive line got a little more of a push in the second half against Boston College, but the Tigers haven’t been winning their matchups up-front really all season.

Defensively, Clemson played its worst half of the season when it gave up 28 points to the Eagles, but the Tigers looked much better in the second half, holding BC scoreless and allowing them less than 100 yards of total offense.

Clemson survives scare vs. Boston College. dark. Next

The point is simple: Clemson would love to have Trevor Lawrence back, but there’s also no doubt that D.J. Uiagalelei can lead the Tigers to a win. The question is if Clemson football can get these other areas cleaned up that plagued them so heavily against Boston College.
