The Clemson football program will lose one RB to transfer, just two games into the season

Former Clemson football running back Demarkcus Bowman has entered the transfer portal and there’s a wide array of speculation as to where he’ll end up.

AL.com’s Matt Zenitz first reported Thursday afternoon that the Clemson football running back had entered the transfer portal after just two games with the Tigers. Through the games with Clemson, Bowman rushed nine times for 32 yards.

Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney had previously compared Bowman to Tiger great C.J. Spiller and it’s clear that the program was excited about what he would bring to the table in future years. Bowman, however, has different plans.

To this point in the season, Bowman was sixth in the running back pecking order behind Travis Etienne, Lyn-J Dixon, Chez Mellusi, Michel Dukes and fellow freshman Kobe Pace. With the rest of the bunch minus Etienne expected to return next season- barring another transfer or two- Bowman may very well have entered the 2021 season as the fourth-string running back.

But that doesn’t mean he wasn’t talented.

There’s no doubt that Bowman has the talent and skill to play at the next level. In just a few carries, it was clear to see that he had explosive ability and would’ve been a major asset to the Clemson football program in the coming years as he developed.

Bowman was showing heavy interest in Florida before committing to Clemson football

247 Sports is saying that Clemson has reportedly canceled Bowman’s financial aid, so this doesn’t seem like a situation where the freshman might enter the portal and look around before ultimately choosing to stay put.

Before he committed to Clemson, Bowman was heavily considering Florida and there are now rumors circulating that he may be looking to return home. Bowman has several former high school teammates on the Florida Gators’ roster, as well.

While we likely won’t know where he’ll end up for a while, it looks like the door is pretty much closed on Bowman returning to Clemson and it’s seeming more and more likely that he’ll end up moving somewhere closer to home.

UPDATE: Bowman told Tigernet that the passing of his grandfather was the main reason he was transferring from Clemson. He said that he committed to the Tigers so that his grandfather- who lived in Atlanta- could see him play, but didn’t feel comfortable in Tiger Town once he passed. Bowman said he’s looking to play somewhere closer to home and thanked the Clemson coaches, as well.

With this update, it’s seeming more and more likely that he ends up in Florida as we said previously.

There’s no doubt that Bowman has the talent to play at the next level and it will be interesting to see what he’s able to accomplish when it’s all said and done.
