Clemson Football: Opening Line vs. Wake Forest is way too low
The opening line for the Clemson football season-opener has been unveiled
The opening line for the Clemson football season-opener against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons has been unveiled and it’s heavily in favor of the Tigers.
Clemson opens up as a 32-point favorite over Wake Forest in a game that will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. live on ABC.
While 32 points seems like a lot and is certainly a substantial spread, in all reality we all know it’s simply not enough.
Wake Forest can’t stop Clemson football and they won’t have much success scoring, either
Wake Forest as a program is trending in the right direction under Dave Clawson, but let’s not pretend that they’re a juggernaut or have anywhere near the amount of talent the Tigers possess heading into this season.
Wake Forest has struggled defensively over the past couple of seasons and hasn’t been able to muster any kind of offense against Clemson, either. Just for reference, they lost 52-3 in 2019 and 63-3 to the Tigers in 2018.
That’s a combined score of 115-6 over the last two seasons.
Wake Forest doesn’t have the athletes defensively to slow down Clemson’s offense, led by returners Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne and Amari Rodgers. They also don’t have the talent in the trenches to match up with Clemson’s deep defensive line.
Oh, and did we mention that the Demon Deacons will be without their No. 1 play-maker Sage Surratt who decided to opt out of the 2020 season to prepare for the NFL Draft?
Yes, 32 points on the surface sounds like a lot. But when you begin to break down this game- knowing that there will be no fans and this will simply be two teams inside a stadium playing against each other- you can see why 32 points simply isn’t enough.
